Air conditioning for Kamenya Omote

In summer the shop gets too hot to try on masks. An honest plea for equipment.

Kamenya Omote is a mask shop in a Kyojima row house, open on weekends. In summer, the inside gets hotter than the street. A shop that has to tell customers "please try it on quickly" is probably doing something wrong.

Because of the old row-house construction, installation needs wall reinforcement. We took quotes, and this goal is what it costs.

The rewards use what the shop has — masks, and the experience of trying on as many as you like in a properly cooled room. It is not a glamorous plan, but it is an honest one.

If the goal isn't reached, nobody is charged, and next summer we fight on with electric fans.

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk is the building. Kamenya Omote is in a row house, and installation needs the wall reinforced. We have quotes from two contractors, but nobody knows what's behind the wall until it's opened. If it runs over, we drop the unit down a grade and hold the total.

The schedule is not ours to set either. The shop only opens at weekends, so weekday work costs us no trading — but the tradespeople's calendar comes first.

To be blunt: this is a plan whose failure inconveniences nobody. If it falls short we'll get through another summer on electric fans. What we want to find out is how many people would like this shop to be cooler.

Will the money really only go to the air conditioning

Yes — the unit and the installation. If anything is left over we'll report it in an update and put it toward shop equipment such as ventilation.

Does "unlimited try-ons" really mean anything in the shop

Every mask the shop owns. A few consigned artists' pieces come with handling conditions and are excluded; we'll point those out on the day.

Does my name go up if I back this
